For beginning players, racquetball string quality is less important and you are probably looking for a more durable racquetball strings in a 15 gauge. When you are first learning how to play racquetball, you will be hitting off-center more often which will make the racquetball strings break easier. Especially in your first racquetball tournament if you only have one racquet ball racquet, use a thicker, stronger type of racquetball string.

As a player’s skill level improves, they will begin to notice that each racquetball string offers a unique combination of power, durability, and control. Compared to 15 gauge string, 16 gauge string provides more power and control while maintaining some degree of toughness. In a racquetball tournament, if you are limited to only 1 or 2 racquets it is recommended to stick with a racquetball string that is no higher than 16 gauge.

Open and Pro racquetball tournament players sometimes prefer 17 gauge racquetball string. The thinner 17 gauge gives them maximum power and control, but they sacrifice the durability. If you are a hard-hitter, 17 gauge racquetball strings can easily break with one off-centered hit because of the thickness. At the pro racquetball tournaments, professionals often will have to replace their racquet strings every few matches using a 17 gauge racquetball string.

The least frequently used string gauge, and the thinnest in racquetball is the 18 gauge. If you are a power player, forget about trying this racquetball string, you would break your string every other game you played. This string type is ideal for racquetball tournament participants who are soft hitters, or controlled women players who rarely break their racquetball strings. 18 gauge strings are not recommended for recreational play.

So what do you do when your racquetball strings break?
